Christine Maynard

Christine is a self-taught Christchurch artist creating large scale canvas works.

She has always been creative having owned a wedding decorating business and participated in several house renovations.

Her semi-abstract paintings are inspired by the NZ landscape, particularly Central Otago, MacKenzie Country and Canterbury.

“Unspoilt wilderness, lush vegetation, sculptural rock formations, and rugged terrain . . . as an artist I am continually striving to adequately represent this natural beauty.”

The paintings reveal aspects of the landscape the eye would not normally see, with many layers and suggestions of what lies beneath the surface.

The layers of paint create a textured aesthetic that is highlighted with various glazes.

The resultant work is dreamlike and atmospheric with a colour palette that is unplanned and organic
