I was born in Denmark, where I grew up and lived during the first half of my adult life before moving to New Zealand in 2008. When you leave your country of birth as an adult to immigrate to another, your existence after this point will for whatever time remains, be liminal, suspended between two points of belonging each with an equally strong claim on you. Whatever space your physical body happens to occupy at any given time, on some level you are always aware of the pull of the other, of being suspended in transit between the two.
The focus of my work is to understand the way in which space, perceived and remembered, reflects our sense of self and questions of belonging. Most particularly I am interested in the many spaces of transition we encounter in our daily lives.
